Many travelers fall into the trap of strict chronology. You tell yourself, “I have to describe what I did on Monday, then Tuesday, then Wednesday…” If you do that, your reader is likely to get bored quickly. They know that traveling involves transportation and meals; they want to know how those moments made you feel. When you look for examples of great travel narratives , notice one thing: they almost never follow the strict order of the itinerary.

The problem is that your travel journal is full of facts. Your story needs to be filled with feelings. For example, instead of saying, “I took the bus from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to get to such-and-such village,” ask yourself what was truly important about that journey. Was it the stifling heat? The surreal conversation with the driver? The distinctive smell of the passing countryside? It’s these details that transform a simple trip into a piece of adventure.

Find the central narrative arc

A good travelogue, even a short one, needs a backbone. This is called the narrative arc. It’s the central question or challenge you overcame. Think about what you learned or what changed within yourself. This is often what distinguishes a run-of-the-mill article from an excellent personal travelogue .

What was your initial goal? To escape the stress of daily life? To find a specific answer? Or perhaps simply to experience the unknown? This starting point is your “initial situation.” The journey itself, with its unexpected events and encounters, is the “conflict” or the “adventure,” and you can find inspiration for your own next travel story . The end is what you learned or how you evolved.

Practical tip: Before you start writing, answer this simple question: “If I had to summarize my trip in one idea or one striking emotion, what would it be?” This idea will be the central theme of your story.

The art of sensory description

Your reader can’t feel the mountain wind or taste the spicy dish you enjoyed. Your job is to give them the tools to do so, mentally. That’s the key to writing immersive travelogues .

For each significant scene, force yourself to use at least three senses. Novice travelers often focus on the visual (what they see). That’s good, but not enough. Broaden your field of perception.

Hearing: What do you hear? The distant murmur of prayers? The metallic clatter of an old tram? The oppressive silence of the desert?

The sense of smell: The smell of salt and iodine? The heady scent of spices in a market? The smell of rain falling on hot earth?

Touch: The roughness of the stones beneath your bare feet? The sudden coolness of the shade? The coarse texture of an old local fabric?

If you’re describing a crowded market, don’t just say, “There were lots of people and lots of colors.” Instead, say, “The crowd gently pushed past me, my shoulder brushing against a vendor’s rough linen, while the sun, filtered through the red tarpaulins, gave a fiery hue to the air heavy with cumin and sweat.” Do you see the difference? The second example takes you directly there, offering a more immersive and memorable experience .

Integrating human encounters

The landscapes are magnificent, but it’s the people you meet who truly give soul to your inspiring travel stories . Encounters are often pivotal moments in the adventure, as they force interaction and a questioning of your own certainties.

When you recount an interaction, avoid turning it into a simple anecdote. Give it weight. What was the context? What was the communication barrier (language, culture)? And above all, what did this person show you that was different from your own life?

Imagine you spent an evening at someone’s home. Instead of saying, “I had a nice dinner and chatted with the family,” focus on a specific detail. Perhaps the way the father told a story, using his hands with an expressiveness you’ve never seen before. Use the dialogue to reveal the characters’ personalities, even if they’re only in a single scene.

Managing doubt and trip failure

Perhaps you experienced a disappointment. A missed train, terrible weather ruining your long-awaited hike, or simply the feeling that the place wasn’t as “magical” as you’d hoped. Know that these moments are the most precious for a good storyteller. The best travel stories always include an element of authenticity, and authenticity comes from vulnerability.

If you don’t have anything extraordinary to say, write about the ordinary, but show how you experienced it. Doubt, loneliness, confusion in the face of a local custom… these moments reveal your humanity. The reader thinks: “Ah, that could happen to me. I’m not the only one who feels lost sometimes.”

If your summit remained hidden in the clouds, tell of the frustration of the climb, the fleeting beauty of the clearings, and the lesson you learned on the way back down: the reward is not always at the summit.

The rhythm and structure of your story

To maintain interest, you need to play with the pacing. Imagine your story as a musical score. Some parts should be slow, descriptive, allowing the reader to soak in the atmosphere (these are the moments of contemplation). Others should be fast-paced, full of action (these are the moments of adventure or tension).

How to vary the rhythm?

To speed things up: Use short sentences. Cut out unnecessary details. Get to the action immediately. “The noise. A scream. I turned around.”

To slow down: Develop a complete sensory description. Use subordinate clauses to add nuance. Take time to analyze a thought or emotion.

If you’re writing a series of articles, use a catchy title for each one. Each title should promise a unique adventure. Instead of “Trip to Peru, Day 12,” try: “How a Simple Piece of Bread Taught Me the Meaning of Andean Hospitality.” This grabs the reader’s attention and promises a specific story—one of the secrets to crafting compelling travel narratives .

The importance of post-writing and proofreading

Once you’ve emptied your bag of ideas onto paper, the real work begins: sculpting your story. Don’t get too attached to your first words. The first draft is for capturing the essence; the second is for making that essence tangible.

Read your text aloud. It’s a fundamental exercise. If you stumble over a sentence, if you need to catch your breath mid-comma, it means the structure is too complex or the rhythm is off. Simplify. The most effective style is often the clearest.

Make sure each paragraph has a purpose. If a passage describes something you saw but doesn’t contribute to your main narrative or enhance the atmosphere, remove it. Being concise means respecting your reader’s time. Choosing the right words to tell your story is what creates memorable travel narratives .

In a world where distances seem to shrink and cultures to converge thanks to technological advancements and globalization, the concept of travel has emerged as far more than a simple leisure activity. It has become a profound quest for discovery, personal enrichment, and understanding of the world around us. Beyond geographical boundaries, travel is an invitation to explore not only new geographical horizons, but also spiritual, intellectual, and emotional ones.

Preparing for His Odyssey

The Quest for the Best Route

Planning a trip is an art in itself. It’s about finding a balance between discovering iconic destinations and exploring less-traveled paths. Using search engines and flight comparison sites can be crucial for finding the best fares to destinations like the Caribbean , Bangkok , or Lisbon . Flexibility with travel dates and stopovers can also open the door to more advantageous opportunities.

Anticipation and Reservation

Once the itinerary is finalized, booking flights is the next step. It’s advisable to book in advance to take advantage of lower prices , especially for popular destinations like Majorca or the Canary Islands . This also includes booking accommodations , whether luxurious or more modest, and planning local transportation for a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.

At the Heart of the Journey

The Air Experience

Choosing the right airline is crucial. Between traditional carriers and low-cost airlines , travelers must consider several factors such as comfort, services offered, and of course, cost. Airlines like Air France and Ryanair offer a variety of experiences tailored to individual needs and budgets.

Beyond the Flight

Traveling is not just about getting from point A to point B. It’s about immersing yourself in diverse cultures, encountering the unknown. Whether it’s a getaway to a European city like Venice , an adventure in the Pyrenees , or a seaside holiday on the French Riviera , each destination offers its own unique and enriching experiences.

The Art of Traveling Light

Optimizing Your Luggage

Traveling requires careful preparation, especially when it comes to luggage. Whether to check baggage or travel with carry-on luggage depends on the length of your trip and your personal needs. It’s essential to check the weight and size restrictions imposed by airlines to avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport.

Travel Gadgets and Accessories

In the digital age, certain gadgets can greatly enhance the travel experience. Universal adapters, portable chargers, and travel apps are all practical tools for the modern traveler. However, it’s important to find a balance so as not to overload your luggage with unnecessary equipment.

Upon Return: Sharing and Recharging

Immortalizing Memories

Photos and travel stories allow you to share experiences and discoveries with loved ones. Keeping a travel blog or sharing moments on social media not only preserves memories but also inspires other travelers seeking adventure.

Planning the Next Adventure

Every trip opens the door to new possibilities. Returning home is often a time to reflect on the experiences and start planning the next adventure. Perhaps a visit to the picturesque villages of the Périgord region or an exploration of the pristine beaches of Polynesia ? The world is full of wonders to discover.

Towards New Discoveries

Travel is a privilege that enriches the soul and broadens horizons. Every destination visited, every culture explored, and every encounter made along the way contributes to a deeper understanding of the world and oneself. Isn’t that the true essence of travel, an eternal journey toward new discoveries and new learning?

1. Make a budget and keep it

Yes, we know it’s boring, but it’s an effective tip.

How much money can and will you spend on the trip? Is it realistic in relation to your destination?

If you do not have control over this part, the money can quickly disappear without you knowing where it has gone.

We usually make a daily budget , which is divided into accommodation, food, transport as well as fun and spas. During the day, we write down prices on a note on the phone so we can keep an eye on whether we are keeping the budget.

You can also split your cash into daily portions or download a budget app. The most important thing is that you find a method that suits you so that you do not get stuck keeping track of your budget along the way.

2. Travel in the low season

It almost says itself, but when tourists flock to a destination, prices skyrocket.

This especially applies to hotels, but also some activities and entrance fees.

Therefore, check when it is low or shoulder season and see if you can time your visit.

If you have the opportunity to travel outside the high season, there can be a lot of money to be saved.

Book well in advance

When it comes to traveling cheaply, it can almost always pay to be out in good time.

The actual price will not necessarily be cheaper if you book several weeks or months in advance, but in return the cheapest options will often be sold out if you wait until the last minute.

This is especially true for transportation and accommodation, but also for some activities.

4. Live outside the city

Accommodation in big cities can quickly swallow your entire budget, so consider whether you can find a place to stay on the outskirts of the city.

As a rule, you are still out on adventures all day, and then there is no reason to use the box in an expensive location.

Okay, we admit that it’s not always cool.

But if you travel alone or on a tight budget, dormitories and hostels are a really good opportunity to save on accommodation.

We can almost also guarantee that you fall into conversation with new people and have some fun experiences.

If you would like to have your own room (but do not mind that there is some life in the common areas), then many hostels also have private rooms, which are often cheaper than hotel rooms.

If you spend some time researching your destination, you will find that there are often plenty of free activities in the area.

Withdraw cash from home

In Denmark, most people are used to paying by credit card, but the further south in Europe you go, the more often only cash is received.

Not to mention Asia, Latin America, Africa and even small businesses and transportation in the United States.

Withdrawing cash abroad is mostly possible, but it is certainly not free.

Typically, there is both a fee from your own bank and the local bank, and it can quickly run up if you have to withdraw several times on a longer trip.

Therefore, we can clearly recommend taking local currency with you from home – or alternatively bring US dollars that can be exchanged along the way if, for example, you do not know which countries you should visit in advance.

11. Eat cheap

Spending money on food is inevitable, but if you want to save money on travel, it is an item worth keeping an eye on.

First of all: avoid eating at tourist attractions.

Prices are skyrocketing and quality is not necessarily keeping up.

Go for cheap street food stalls or check out the local supermarket for groceries so you can make your own food.

There are many hostels that have shared kitchens, and it may also be possible to find a refrigerator, microwave or electric kettle in some hotel rooms or in Airbnb apartments.

When we travel for a longer period of time, we often shop to be able to make breakfast ourselves, and in addition to saving us money, it is also extremely nice to be able to control when, how much and what we start the day with eating.

You can also look for lunch specials. Many restaurants have mid-day specials where the food is sold at a fraction of the price to be paid in the evening.

12. Drink water

Always remember to drink plenty of water. It is cheaper and healthier than sodas, energy drinks, juices and the like.

That being said, water can be a disproportionately large and sometimes invisible item in the budget.

Find out if you can drink tap water so you do not have to pay for water. For example, bring a bottle with you around the day that can be refilled – it is also better for the environment.

If the water cannot be drunk, you can bring a water filter that purifies the water (it can be bought in most nature and outdoor life shops). You can also buy larger water containers with 6 or 10 liters of water, which can be poured into smaller bottles.

In many restaurants it is also possible to ask for tap water or filtered local water if you want to avoid buying expensive drinks and bottled water.

13. Save on the splash

As with food, it can mostly pay off to buy alcohol at a local supermarket .

If you are out at a bar or restaurant, you can take advantage of happy hour deals or try the local liquor instead of expensive imported items.

14. Try to negotiate the price

Do not be afraid to try to haggle over the price. It is actually expected in a number of countries – especially in Asia and the Middle East.

This applies, for example, to clothing and souvenir markets, where there are no price tags on the goods, or if you buy several goods from the same retailer. It can also often be possible to find a slightly lower price with tuktuk drivers or tour companies if you suggest a good price with a smile.

But be careful not to over-negotiate, because what is only a few kroner for you can be a day’s food for the whole family for some.

What are walking sticks?

It is extremely important that the support and relief of the feet, ankles and knees are optimized on a long hike. These will be exposed to a lot of pressure when you move in versatile terrain with packing on your back, as the body must constantly stabilize itself. It is therefore important to wear a pair of hiking shoes or boots that match the trip to the shell. But it is not just good shoes that can help to relieve the body.

Water bars are an overlooked piece of gear that can greatly help to relieve the exposed body parts. They will give you a much better balance, which relieves the constant stabilization. And they will help you to move faster and more dynamically through challenging terrain. Many hikers and trail runners will experience an improvement in pace by exploiting the potential of a few hiking poles. In short, hiking poles are good for both increasing your metabolism, helping you in hilly terrain, reducing injuries and helping you walk longer distances. If you are curious about cool routes where you can try your hiking poles, you can read on our blog .

What types of hiking poles are there?

There are many types of hiking poles, all with different characteristics and for different budgets. In general, when talking about types of hiking poles, one will typically look at three characteristics of the hiking pole: 1) What is the material that the pole is made of? 2) What level of adjustability does the rod have and 3) What type of handle does the walking rod have.

Material

There are many types of walking sticks, but common to most is that they are made of a lightweight material that makes them easier to walk with. You can typically find walking sticks in aluminum or carbon . Aluminum is a durable and economically good choice. These rods can handle a high level of stress, and can give an incredible amount without breaking. Carbon is a more expensive and lightweight choice that is good for balancing vibrations and shocks. However, these rods have a bit easier to break under a high stress level.

Adjustability

It is important to be able to adjust your hiking poles to suit both your body and the terrain you are in. Typically, hiking poles come as adjustable telescopic poles or as fixed folding poles . The advantage of the adjustable rods is that you can customize them exactly to your needs. See the next section for tips on adjusting this type of rod. It must be said that if you are looking for a very minimalist and lightweight rod, the foldable can easily be a solution for you. But we would recommend most people to buy an adjustable rod and you can find a large selection of these at our shop .

Handle

It is important that the handle helps your hand and arm with the right ergonomic support. Most hiking poles come with optimized handles that help you hold properly, but there is a difference in what material they come in. Cork is especially good in hot climates as this material is good at absorbing sweat and moisture. Foam is also sweat-absorbent, and a very soft material that is nice to hold on to. Rubber is ideal for a colder climate, as it insulates the hands from the cold, and is good for relieving shocks.

How do I set up my walking sticks?

It is important that the walking sticks fit your height and therefore it is important to check the length before you buy. When standing upright with the bar in hand, your elbow should be at a 90 degree angle when the end of the bar hits the ground. A good reminder is that if you are taller than 180 cm, you should at least buy a rod that is 130 cm, and preferably longer. If you are under 180 cm, you can adjust most of the rods down to fit you. Once you have found hiking poles that suit your height, you can experiment by adjusting the length along the way in your trip.

There is a big difference in how the bar should be adjusted depending on what terrain you are in. If you go straight into normal terrain, the hiking poles must be adjusted so that your elbow is in the 90 degrees. If, on the other hand, you go upwards, you can advantageously shorten the bars by 5-10 cm to adapt them to the body’s movement pattern. If the bars are too long here you will quickly notice that your shoulders are tense as they will be unnaturally lifted. If you go down, you can extend the rods by 5-10 cm, so you can help the body to a more upright position and better balance.

How do I walk with walking sticks?

It is a matter of habituation to use walking sticks, but do not throw them away after one failed attempt. We promise that the learning curve is steep in the beginning, and that you will probably quickly find the right technique for you. We have a few tips and tricks that might make it a little easier to get started.

Grip technique

It is important that your hand and wrist can relax when you use the walking sticks so that you do not go and strain the whole arm. You will quickly get tired of this and therefore they may pay to have the right grip from the start. We recommend that you use the wrist straps, as these help to relieve tension. When you put on the wrist strap, it is important that you bring your hand in from below, also pull down on the strap to grab the handle. This technique will support your wrist, and allow your hand to relax in the grip.

Gait technique

If one is to exploit the potential of the walking sticks, it is important to find the right rhythm. You walk with walking sticks by constantly lifting the opposite foot and pole. Left foot / right rod, right foot / left rod and so on. If you should get out of rhythm, you can lift the bars up and continue walking for a moment. Then put the bars down when you are ready to find your way back into the rhythm.

When you walk with walking sticks, your arms will be more elevated than they are used to. It may therefore feel unnatural to have to swing your arms as usual, but it is important to walk as naturally as possible. You can accommodate this by having the rods slightly behind you. In this way you can get a larger arm swing, and even a small start / push to get forward faster.

OUR ITINERARY

We have bought return flights to Rio de Janeiro, but at first it will only be a short ‘pit stop’ in the city. At the airport, a pre-booked taxi is waiting, which takes us directly to the small port city of Conceição de Jacareì, which is a 2-hour drive southwest of Rio. From here we sail flux on to:

Big Island

The 193 km2 island of Ilha Grande is the largest in the area and is referred to as Brazil’s bounty island. Here are neither cars nor major roads, but plenty of hiking trails winding through the mountainous jungle and out to the island’s 102 unspoilt beaches.

I sailed along the palm-clad coast almost 20 years ago when I first visited Brazil, and have since dreamed of going ashore. My 19-year-old I remember it as enchantingly beautiful! So now I hope that the memory – and the many anecdotes I have poured on Martin over the years – live up to reality.

paraty

The historic port city will be the next stop on the route. The trip goes by boat and bus along the lush coast, which is also called “Costa Verde” (the green coast). The coastline is known for being Brazil’s most beautiful and surrounds Paraty with scenic surroundings: wooded mountain landscapes, tropical beaches and an idyllic archipelago, where in the old days the pirates hid from the Portuguese.

You do not have to check many travel guides before you discover that Paraty tops all the ‘must-see’ lists in Brazil. In addition to the scenic landscapes, the city houses some of the world’s best-preserved colonial architecture. In pictures, the cobbled and car-free streets look like something from a historical film, where guys like Zorro jump down from red brick roofs, free the population from greedy rich people and charm Latino-delicious beauties.

We strongly doubt whether our stay in Paraty will be as action-packed, but we look forward to experiencing the beautiful city before taking the bus on to:

With over 20 million inhabitants, São Paulo is the largest city in the southern hemisphere. That in itself is a fact that arouses our curiosity. In addition, the colossal concrete jungle is also Marcela’s hometown before she moved to Copenhagen. So we can hardly wish for a better guide when we meet the future couple in the gigabyte.

After an evening in São Paulo, we drive with Marcela and Johan to her parents’ cottage at the town of Piracicaba, approx. 2 hours drive from São Paulo. Here begins the warm-up to the highlight of the whole journey:

Brazilian wedding

We have no doubt that the next four days will be a bubbly, fun and samba dancing experience! For there is one thing that the Brazilians are known for, it is that they are fabulous to party! And that’s exactly what the couple has planned for us.

For the occasion, they have rented a hotel where there is room for the party’s 300 guests (yes, you read that right – three hundred!) Contrary to the Danish wedding party traditions, we are not seated on a multi-course menu and must not pay attention to home-brewed songs and long speeches.

No no, a large buffet with Brazilian delicacies and an open cocktail bar will ensure that the party guests have the energy to keep the dance floor going all night long. We have to go out and shake R…! What’s not to like?

Gondolas, crooked streets and romance are probably what pop up when you think of Venice. But in fact, there is an even more beautiful gem 40 minutes sailing north of Venice. The island is called Burano and is perhaps the most colorful place in all of Italy. Do NOT miss this on a trip to Venice – and now we’ll tell you and show you why.

After a very stressful day in Venice with many people and a lot of noise from motorboats, we did not have high expectations for Burano. However, we had heard from several that it should be really good and less touristy – especially if you are fresh in the morning and take one of the very early boats. So we did.

The alarm clock rang at 06.00, and at 06.56 we were ready by the bus to reach the ferry 08.10 over to Burano from Fondamente Nove. It should turn out to be worth it all.

Where is Burano?

Venice is surrounded by a lot of small islands. One of these is Burano, which is 40 minutes sailing north from perhaps the most visited city in all of Italy. However, it does not feel like 40 minutes when sailing, as the view from the boat is fantastic. Incidentally, it also costs only 7.50 euros per person to take the ferry over there.

On the way to Burano you also pass Murano, which is on many tourists’ to do list when they go to Venice. The reason for this is that this is where many of the glassblowers are located. So if you want genuine Murano glasses to take home from your Italian holiday, you should take a trip to Murano on the way home from Burano.

What is Burano known for?

Unlike Murano, Burano is not known for glassblowing. In return, the island is known for its very beautiful and colorful buildings that can be found everywhere on the small island. Never before have we seen anything like it – and it was exactly colors like these that we had expected we would be greeted by around Italy.

There is not much to do in Burano besides exploring the many small and colorful side streets. It is also abundant in itself as it is a delight to the eye. It’s simply hard to get enough!

If you want to be free of Venice and the many people, you also get the Venice vibe of Burano, as the island is also filled with canals and bridges. There is just far more calm and beautiful!

When is the best time to visit Burano?

We highly recommend going to the island early in the morning. Very much like in a weekday if possible. If not, the first departures are already before sunrise – and every 20 minutes. If you are near Venice in connection with an extended weekend, there is still a good opportunity to experience the island before all other pilgrimages there after breakfast and for lunch.

Summer is obviously much busier than autumn. On the other hand, it is also warmer than what we experienced. Because we had to walk around in thick sweaters despite sunshine, as the temperature only crept up to 16 degrees. In return, we were happy to have the island to ourselves for an entire hour – it was quite magical!

Burano is clearly one of the most beautiful places we have seen in Italy . So do not deceive yourself for the opportunity if you are planning a visit to the area around Venice!

After all that hassle, the most relaxing part is being able to finally sit down at your designated seat (even better, if it’s a window seat), and let the cabin crew do the rest.

Well, sometimes scarce leg space becomes the least of your issues during a flight. Ex-flight attendant Shawn Kathleen has created a project named Passenger Shaming, dedicated to sharing bizarre situations that occur while traveling.

The project is now spanning multiple media platforms and posts content that goes way beyond crying children. Imagine some awfully smelling liquid dripping down on you from an overhead bin or seeing someone dry their sweaty socks using the air vent. Yeah.

The capital of the United Kingdom is the largest city in all of Europe, both demographically and financially. It has a curious peculiarity that not everyone knows and that will serve to understand some of the recommendations that we indicate in this London guide : 2000 years ago, the Romans founded Londinium. That settlement, walled at the time, is what is now known as the City of London , which is a small city of about 8,800 inhabitants in an area of about 2.6 square kilometers.

Around this small city, Greater London or Greater London is located . The City of London is governed by a different mayor and laws than Greater London. In addition, within Greater London we also find the City of Westminster , which is where the royal family and government buildings are located.

The Thames, its historic buildings, palaces, museums, restaurants and bustle will make you not have a minute to get bored. London is a city that offers all kinds of entertainment and for all audiences.

One of London’s most recognizable icons, along with Big Ben, is Tower Bridge . Built in the Victorian style 120 years ago, this suspension and bascule bridge over the River Thames is considered one of the greatest works of engineering. Its two towers are joined at the top and at the bottom it has a drawbridge, which opens about 800 times a year. Large boats or boats with masts over 9 meters can request its opening if they give 24 hours notice. The bridge is freely accessible to vehicles and pedestrians, but if you want to visit its towers and the exhibition inside, you must obtain a ticket.

Every year, we compile a list of the top destinations to travel to in the coming year. With the global pandemic and travel bans that have closed the borders of several countries, it may seem inconceivable to consider flying abroad right now. However, there is good news : things are looking up.

Did you know that the travel and tourism industry in the United States generated over $1.6 trillion in economic output in 2017? So you can easily guess that many countries have started opening their borders. Don’t be scared; they are doing it while maintaining health and safety protocols. What are you looking for now? Let me guess a big bucket full of travel destinations where you can relax and have fun. If you do, then you, my friend, have come to the right place. In today’s list, we will tell you the 10 best countries you can visit after Covid-19 on a budget.

The 10 Countries to Visit After Covid-19

10. Iceland

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Iceland has done a great job of adapting to the changes caused by COVID-19, but you will most likely experience them during your stay. Ultimately, how your trip is affected may be determined by the things you choose to participate in while you are there. Iceland is a country controlled by nature. Iceland is one of the most volcanically active ecosystems on the planet due to its location on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. There are some beautiful places to visit in Iceland. Reykjavik is the most popular destination for visitors to Iceland, and it is indeed not a must-see. But if you want to explore Iceland, you need to go beyond Reykjavik.

For example, don’t forget to hit the beach in Breidavik. In summer it’s the perfect place for a long walk by the sea; in winter, settle in with a thermos of hot chocolate and watch the sunset light up the sky. Iceland also has a plethora of famous waterfalls. Dettifoss is unrivaled in terms of force – it is, after all, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. You could actually drive there, but hiking through Jokulsargljfur National Park is much more fun. On foot, you can appreciate the sound of the falls as you get closer before you stand in front of them, facing the canyon below – an unforgettable sight and sound. Every August, a truly moving spectacle takes place on the island of Heimaey. This is when adult puffins migrate to the sea and their chicks leave their nests to join them in their search for food.

This list is not just about great places to party, but also about budget. If you are planning to visit Iceland on a budget, it should be obvious that you will need to find some budget accommodations. Luckily, Iceland has a number of great hostels spread across the world, making your trip much more affordable. If you are planning to visit one of the nearby pubs in Iceland, you might be shocked to learn that alcohol is very expensive. This is due to the high taxation on alcoholic beverages, which is bad news for budget travelers. So, what options are available to you? The best option is to buy a Duty-Free bottle at the airport of departure.

9. Costa Rica

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Costa Rica has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in Latin America. Its government has been praised for its good control of the virus, so travelers can return with optimism as the country reopens on November 1 to all Americans who meet the criteria. Plus, no one can argue with the beauty of Costa Rica. There are many fun activities to do in Costa Rica. Like ziplining through the rainforest canopy. You’ll get an up-close and personal view of these vast forests by taking a zip-line trip.

You can also visit the Baru National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is another perfect illustration of the beauty of Costa Rica; with 800 acres of land, seven kilometers of trails and three kilometers of spectacular beaches it is a great attraction. The main activities of the park include bird watching, tree tours and walking tours. Costa Rica has many waves and opportunities to learn to surf, whether you are in Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Santa Theresa or Tamarindo. In fact, most visitors come here to surf because of the world-famous waves.

Now, are you looking to save money in Costa Rica? Well, you can always go for hostel dorms for your overnight stay. It will cost you $10-15 USD per night, including free Wi-Fi, and most hostels also offer free breakfast. For your daily meal, you can expect to pay around $2-5 USD. A delicious meal will cost you around $15-20 USD, and eating from street vendors will cost you less than $1. Also, you can skip the tour buses and take a local bus to travel; it will cost less.

8. Colombia

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Colombia offers a wide range of exciting events and attractions for people of all ages and budgets. Despite improvements in safety, street crime remains a major problem in major cities such as Cartagena, Medellin and Bogota. Avoid using your phone in public areas, taxis or Uber to reduce your chances.

Parque Tayrona is a great place to unwind. Parque Tayrona is a largely undeveloped national park located on the Caribbean coast about six hours east of Cartagena. It’s where the jungle meets secluded beaches. Hike along the shores before reaching Playa Cabo San Juan, my recommendation for the best place to unwind. Spend up to a week in the Colombian jungle on a hike from Santa Marta or Taganga to Ciudad Perdida to feel like Indiana Jones. You can also visit Bogota’s gold museum, scuba diving, paragliding, and more.

Most hostel dorms in Colombia will cost between $10-15 USD per night. A meal at a restaurant serving local food will cost between $3-5 USD. Expect to pay around $48 USD per day if you are backpacking in Colombia. This assumes you will be staying in a hostel, enjoying the local cuisine, preparing lots of meals, and getting around using local transportation.

7. Malaysia

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Traveling around Malaysia is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated activities in the country. The country receives a lot of visitors, but not as many as other Southeast Asian countries. Malaysia has a lot to offer tourists, from the dense urban forest of Kuala Lumpur to the sandy beaches of the Perhentian Islands, the inland jungles and tasty foods.

Explore a tea plantation or spend the day with a traditional tribe in the Cameron Highlands. Trek through Gunung Mulu and Taman Negara National Parks to see incredible animals such as tigers, elephants, monkeys, tapirs, bears, etc. Alternatively, head to Borneo and look for wild orangutans, hike through the rainforest and see Mount Kinabalu’s razor-sharp peak. Travelers passing through on their way to Thailand or Singapore are all too familiar with rushing. I strongly advise you to avoid making the same mistakes.

You will pay about $37 per day on a backpacker budget. This budget would include a dorm bed in a hostel, mostly street food, public transportation. But I recommend you go for a mid-range budget, so for about $70 per day you can get a private room in a hostel or budget hotel, eat at a restaurant once a day, eat a variety of street food, take public transportation, and attend multiple events. With this budget, you could also go trekking.

6. Greece

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Greece is not only an amazing destination with its breathtaking ocean views, unique architecture, and delicious cuisine, but it is also very affordable. You can travel around Greece for half the cost of other European countries. People from all over the world visit Greece for its famous islands, known for their sunshine, and its cities are famous for their culture. And, while the islands get the most coverage, the center of the country, with its small towns and mountains, is one of the most underrated and overlooked tourist spots in the country.

Greece is a very affordable vacation spot. My recommended daily budget is $60-70 USD. This assumes you stay in a guesthouse, eat decent food, prepare some of your own meals, use public transportation. Whether you are island hopping or traveling during peak season, you should expect to pay more.

5. Indonesia

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Indonesia is an island nation with over 17,000 islands and over 261 million people, making it the world’s largest island country. It’s no surprise that Indonesia is a popular travel destination for so many people, thanks to its low-cost local cuisine and affordable accommodations. Indonesia offers a wide range of activities. While most travelers head to Bali, the Gili Islands, or Lombok, I recommend that you make an effort to visit less touristy and off-the-beaten-path destinations as often as possible.

You can explore Prambanan Temple. This historical site contains 244 temples, with the central complex serving as the key attraction. There are eight minor temples and eight main temples here, the tallest of which reaches 150 meters. You can also explore Jakarta; there are many things to see in Jakarta.

There is a place called Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is the cultural capital of Indonesia and is a much less industrialized area than Jakarta. There is a fascinating mix of ancient traditions and contemporary life here. You can also go see the Banyu Wana Amertha waterfalls. Despite these being some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Bali, few people visit them.

Weekuri Lake is one of the most scenic spots on Sumba Island. It is fed by the waves of the Indian Ocean that crash into the cracks of the rocks, hidden behind 10-15 meter high cliffs. Swimming is great because of the ice blue sea and small patches of coral reef. You should also borrow inner tubes and go for a relaxing afternoon.

There are many things to do in Indonesia, but it is impossible to describe in a single list. But you can search the web to learn more about Indonesia.

Now let’s talk about Indonesia travel expenses. The cost of a bed in a hostel dormitory is only $7 USD. I suggest you choose cheap hotels because it costs only $14 USD, including free Wi-Fi and breakfast. And talking about food, local foods are very cheap and delicious, if you go to a local restaurant your meal will cost $1-3 USD. But for a meal in an expensive restaurant it will cost you $6-9 USD, including drinks.

4. Croatia

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

Croatia is one of Europe’s most popular summer vacation destinations. It’s the place to go if you want to see beautiful beaches, rugged islands, historic architecture, and all the sailing you can handle. While it’s not as cheap as it once was, it’s still a budget option compared to European countries.

It would be foolish to visit Croatia without island hopping, as it has over 1,000 islands. You should plan to stay on one of the islands for at least 2-3 days to really immerse yourself in Croatian culture. Brac, Hvar and Cres are some of the most popular islands to explore. You should also pay a visit to the Church of St. James.

The Church of St. James is considered the largest stone structure in the world. It is an architectural marvel from 1431 from start to finish that took until 1536 to be built. The Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Krka, dedicated to the Archangel Michael, was founded in 1345 and is one of the most significant religious sites in Croatia. It is a beautiful place to visit. Also, you can go diving in Croatia, between May and November, the diving environments are at their best. Croatia is known as one of the best sailing destinations in the world. It is a great destination to visit by boat, with calm waves, short distances and a coastline dotted with islands and historical sites.

Now talking about Croatia expenses, budget two-star hotels that include free WiFi, breakfast, TV, air conditioning will cost you $40-60 USD per night. Traditional food will cost you around $9 USD. Maybe it will cost you $100-150 USD per day, including diving, hotel stay, restaurants, excursions, etc.

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

The city of love. Portugal is blessed with white sandy beaches. A rugged coastline, multicultural and architecturally spectacular suburbs and an exceptional climate. With amazing food, abundant wine and reasonable prices, it is the ideal holiday destination. Portugal is one of the most underrated countries in the world. There are many things to see and do in Portugal.

A trip to Evora is an example of this. Evora, a small city with a variety of beautiful and old houses, is another of Portugal’s historical sites. The Temple of Diana is the most famous icon of the city. In Braga you could also see the Religious Temples. The charming city of Braga has numerous classical temples, including the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, one of the most famous places in the country. You can’t leave Portugal without having an idea of the country’s musical history, whether you are in Lisbon or elsewhere. For example Fado. Fado is a very important Portuguese musical performance that dates back at least 200 years. Only one person performs it, and it is a lovely and emotional song.

Overall, you will find accommodation in Portugal relatively cheap, especially if you stay in hotels. Most 2-star hotels will set you back $30 USD per night. And if you want a sit-down meal with drinks, expect to pay between $15 and $20 USD per person. Activities in Portugal are reasonably priced. If you want to visit Portugal, my recommended budget will be $60-70 USD per day.

2. Cyprus

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

The government of Cyprus has proposed an intriguing deal to boost tourism and encourage both COVID-affected and non-COVID-affected people to visit the country. The nation has stated that if the virus infects visitors entering their country, the government will take care of their accommodation, meals, medicines and everything else free of charge.

You can explore the ancient ruins. In Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings are the most famous archaeological site. And the island of Cyprus has many beaches, which is not surprising. Choose from a variety of resorts and hotels located directly on the coast. You can also travel to the picturesque wine route in the mountains. It is not surprising that Cyprus has a long tradition of winemaking and the island is the ideal place for it. On the other hand, Sterna Winery is where you can go if you want to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. It is a quiet and comfortable wine shop with a small menu and a pleasant view.

If you want to stay in a hotel, it will cost around $40-50 USD per night, including free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Speaking of food, your meal will cost $5-10 USD. Buses are available for traveling between cities and within cities, but I recommend renting a car because it will cost $20 USD per day.

Countries to visit after Covid-19.

During the COVID pandemic, Italy has taken a hard hit. Their attitude, however, is admirable, as they have not only reduced the number of cases, but have opened up travel opportunities for foreign visitors. There are several restrictions on the countries visitors can visit, but they are more than welcome to visit the most beautiful places in Italy!

Sicily has opened its doors to visitors for various reasons, one of which is that the Italian economy is heavily dependent on tourism. Sicily is willing to reimburse 50% of a tourist’s travel expenses as a beach destination in the country. In fact, there is a chance to win a free night! Tourists will also visit several museums and tourist attractions without having to buy passes. In addition, Italy is a wonderful country to visit because of its wonderful cuisine, beautiful landscapes, fantastic wine, and long history.

Now, I am not talking about the beauty and driving of Italy because everyone knows about it. Now you might be wondering why I put Italy on the top of my list. It is because Italy has already reduced the ticket prices due to the Covid pandemic. So, grab the chance now. You can do and watch many things in Italy, like watching the Venice carnival, visiting Siena, relaxing on the lakes, eating in Sicily, attending the Holy Week, a day trip to Luca and many more.

Most hostels have free sheets and Wi-Fi. For the most basic of quarters, you can expect to pay around $50 USD per night. And taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic, on the other hand, you may get a discount of $10-30 USD. Unique tagliatelle, bread, vegetables, cake, cheesecake, pizza, and wine are some of the most famous dishes in Italy. It is affordable to have a decent meal anywhere in Italy, but if you take the initiative, it is also possible to eat for less than $15 per day. Most restaurant meals with wine will cost you around $25 per person. And some activities will cost you nothing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. My suggested budget is $30-60 USD per day. .
